Spores Studio
A mixer for on-chain music. Pick two songs, blend them with the Spores mixer, and mint the result as a one-of-one remix, with a visual experience built around the sound. A personal project I designed and built, from concept to MVP in ten days.

Why I built it
SporesDAO is a Web3 music collective whose platform lets people create one-of-one remixes of music NFTs with its own mixer. The first time I tried it, it reminded me of downloading music onto my iPod from LimeWire: the same feeling of freedom, music and technology meeting somewhere new.
Spores Studio was my take on unlocking that for creative exploration: mix two songs seamlessly, and give the mix a visual experience to match.

Ten days, concept to MVP
The first couple of days went to learning the technology and the ways people would use it. Planning and design took four. The hackathon version took a day to build, and the MVP three more.

The design
The interface borrows the shape of familiar mixing software, two decks with a mixer between them, then strips most of it away. The Spores mixer is far simpler than a DJ controller, and Zora already catalogs every song, so there was no library to manage and no dense control surface to learn. The mixer became the main control.
Building on the Spores team's and Zora's SDKs and APIs, the app pulls in each song with its metadata, colors, and cover art. Each deck takes its colors from its track. Below the mixer, a skin and three "juice" layers shape the remix before it is minted.

Outcome
A work-in-progress version was submitted to the ETHGlobal hackathon.
